Sailing is always a new and various experience. These are some advices that we chose for you after our experiences in sailing boat.
If you had some new advices to give us we will be glad to add it to our list...
Provisions
Menu on a sailboat is not much various as those at home, but you have to mind that spaces on a boat are reduced, and even if we have supplied to provide our boats with fridge, are preferred foods that have greater resistance to natural deterioration.
Bread:
Are prepreferred large shapes (Pugliese etc.) that during more and became dry slowly.
Is preferibile to wrap them in cloth of cotton or simple newspaper,so it resists better to humidity (condense with thermal excursions is unavoidable!).
Fish and Meat:
Even if it's fresh maintain in order for little time (the fish resist at maximum for 2 days) If you cannot live without and prefer pork, put it under salt, that will increase conserve.
Canned tunafish is good to make fresh salads that could be made in little time. it conserves well and occupe little space.
Cold cuts:
The vacuum packed sausages, or simply packed and get cut in slices had been often a good arm during navigation. In close-hauled navigation or during navigation in hard conditions is better get satisfied by a simple sandwich and to leave one abundant supper for the evening in port or in haven.
Cheese:
Conserve them in refrigerator very wrapped. The Parmigiano Reggiano is an essential food! it's better to take a full shape and to avoid those confections that sealers say needed to maintain freshness.
Fruit an Salad:
Keep always divided the various types of salad you buy and control them peridically: soon as one is getting bad separate it immediately from the others to avoid contamination.
Conserve them in cold and dry places and avoid to crush them.
Eggs:
There are many tendencies of thought: they are fragile and they get broken easy if you don't have little care and if they're not in their express packages . At the same time they are a good aliment with a lot of protein and fast to cook (omelette). If your holiday is not long and the call in port are frequent our advice is to carry them.Even, make always a test and immerge them in a small pot with water... if they float better don't get a risk!
Pasta & Co:
Pasta, rice, polenta are all energetic aliments (carbohydrates) that are not expensive, doesn't go bad and occupies little space.Unnecessary say that these are the foods more cooked on a boat... get attention in tight close-hauleds! better make a good risotto that it doesn't need of being drained with the risk of get ustionated...
Care
The wind often mitigates the heat but the UV are always in ambush! Never forget solar cream and if you go outside without a minimum of tanning remember to get a high protection.
Sunglasses:
indispensable !!! Reverberation and the reflex of the sun on water get easily tired your eyes.
Hair:
Women are victims of nervous attacks for their own hair that get damaged with salt and sun...
Advice of grandmother: before entering in water smooth them down with olive oil and make pigtails...try it to believe!
Apparel
Suitcases... are absolutely avoided. Abord they are difficult to store and they occupy too much space. Better one common travelling bag.
Often people carried a lot of clothes that they don't use. Sportswear clothes are obligatory. Carry at maximum one elegant dress for evenings in exclusive places but nothing more.
Shoes: avoided shoes with leather soles that are absolutely uncomfortable and extremely smooth. Raincoat: it's better have one of them, keep you dry from rain and protect you from wind.
... but above all:
Keeped off your foot from the quay empty your head from job and daily stresses, that's the way in order to begin one unforgettable Holiday!
